The Single Woman’s Dash of Sass: Feel It, Deal With It, Heal From It

Quote of the Day:

“I must learn to love the fool in me the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries.” ~Theodore Isaac Rubin

The Single Woman Says:

Something I’m learning lately is that it’s OKAY to just be me. It’s okay to be patient with myself when I screw up and to be loving with myself when I make a mistake and to be kind to myself when I’m struggling to overcome something. For the longest time I’ve held myself up to an impossible standard (as I think a lot of women tend to do) thinking that I should just buck up and bounce back when someone hurts me or something disappoints me. Thinking that I should be “evolved” enough to let bad things and negative experiences just roll right off my back without taking the time to validate my feelings and give myself permission to feel bad. And that’s something we all have to do – give ourselves permission to FEEL whatever it is we’re feeling without brushing it off or thinking we’re wrong or bad or silly for feeling it. I’m not suggesting you wallow. I’m suggesting you acknowledge the way you’re feeling, give yourself permission to feel it, honor the feeling, then let it go. Stop telling yourself how you SHOULD feel. Your feelings are very real…and when someone steps on them, you have a right to say “Ouch!” It doesn’t make you weak to have feelings – it actually makes you very, very strong. Today: Feel it, deal with it, and heal from it. Running from your feelings is cowardly. Stopping to face them, acknowledge them, and move on from them is one of the bravest things you can do.
