The Single Woman’s Dash of Sass: Flip the Script on “The Ides of March”

Quote of the Day:

“They had battled and bloodied one another, they had kept secrets, broken hearts, lied, betrayed, exiled, they had walked away, said goodbye and sworn it was forever, and somehow, every time, they had mended, they had forgiven, they had survived. Some mistakes could never be fixed – some, but not all. Some people can’t be driven away, no matter how hard you try. Some friendships won’t break.” ~Robin Wasserman

The Single Woman Says:

“Beware the Ides of March.” It’s all I keep hearing today. It’s even a trending topic on Twitter. A day made famous by an act of betrayal from one friend to another. A day that was once a day of celebration became forever known as a day of darkness when Julius Caesar was murdered by his so-called “best friend” Brutus in 44 B.C. I am choosing, however, to view today as a great day to look back on my own friendships, the ones I’ve gained and lost, and say a prayer of gratitude for the people who have stood by me through thick and thin. The people who have cheered me on when I was at my best and lifted me up when I was at my worst. The people I consider closest to me on the planet – people I have surely hurt and betrayed and disappointed along the way, but that knew me well enough to overlook my actions and see my heart. People I have stood by during their darkest days – through lost jobs and lost parents and lost lovers. People who are more precious to me than gold. Jamie, Jeremy, Alli, Laura, Jennifer – I am SO thankful to each of you for your love, your loyalty, your friendship. You not only don’t judge me by my history…you love me all the more for it. You see past my often neurotic and worrywart ways to the person underneath. Today I celebrate you…for the people you are, for the person you help me be, and for valuing my friendship enough to accept my flaws.
