The Single Woman’s Dash of Sass: Small Gestures, Big Impact

Quote of the Day:

“Do you have any idea how rare it is to have friends that you’ve known your entire life? So please don’t underestimate that. Because in the end you always go back to the people that were there in the beginning.”

The Single Woman Says:

I found a very sweet note on my windshield this morning after a very bad day yesterday from one of my best friends, Alli. I have known Alli my entire life, or really HER entire life, I should say, since once upon a time I was her babysitter. Yep, ten years separate us, and back when I was about 12 and she was about two, I started babysitting for her and her sister Abby and we continued that way for the next decade. Then two years ago, Alli took an internship with the company I was working for and we became the best of friends. Meaning, of course, that in a “truth is stranger than fiction” sort of way, I have actually changed my best friend’s diapers. I know. CRAZY.

Anyway – Alli’s note this morning got me thinking about the friends in my life that I am closest to. And I realized that I have known all of them for at least a decade. And looking back over that decade, there have been times when we’ve grown apart or had silly arguments or even stopped speaking all together for a few months or even longer, yet we’ve always managed to find our way back to each other. And I think that’s what REAL friendship is all about. The people who knew you way back when. The people who knew you even before YOU even knew you. And the people who were on the sidelines cheering for you as you finally figured out who you are destined to become. Other people can pass through your life and even leave a mark, but it’s the ones who STAY that count. It’s the ones that can’t be scared away by a bad day. The ones who will be in your corner, cheering the loudest, refusing to let you STAY down just because you got KNOCKED down. And it’s the ones who leave little notes on your car the morning after you had a really bad day…knowing that it’s often a small gesture that takes up the BIGGEST space in your heart.
