The Single Woman’s Dash of Sass: If They’re Not INCREASING You, They’re DECREASING You!

Quote of the Day:

“The less you associate with some people, the more your life will improve. Any time you tolerate mediocrity in others, it increases your mediocrity. An important attribute in successful people is their impatience with negative thinking and negative acting people. As you grow, your associates will change. Some of your friends will not want you to go on. They will want you to stay where they are. Friends that don’t help you climb will want you to crawl. Your friends will stretch your vision or choke your dream. Those that don’t increase you will eventually decrease you.

Consider this: Never receive counsel from unproductive people. Never discuss your problems with someone incapable of contributing to the solution, because those who never succeed themselves are always first to tell you how. Not everyone has a right to speak into your life. You are certain to get the worst of the bargain when you exchange ideas with the wrong person. Don’t follow anyone who’s not going anywhere.

With some people you spend an evening: with others you invest it. Be careful where you stop to inquire for directions along the road of life. Wise is the person who fortifies his life with the right friendships. If you run with wolves, you will learn how to howl. But, if you associate with eagles, you will learn how to soar to great heights. A mirror reflects a man’s face, but what he is really like is shown by the kind of friends he chooses.

The simple but true fact of life is that you become like those with whom you closely associate – for the good and the bad.” ~Colin Powell

The Single Woman Says:

This is a LONG quote, but it’s so fantastically amazing, I had to share it with you guys anyway. Every bit of it is so true! I have had situations in my own life where I have encountered less-than-genuine or less-than-loyal friends who have turned their backs on me, and though their rejection hurt at the time, I have ALWAYS looked back and breathed a sigh of relief that they chose to exit my life. The bottom line is: When you have a REALLY BIG destiny and refuse to settle for a mediocre existence, you’re not always going to fit in with the crowd. Why? Because you’re not meant to. You’re meant to FLY, not to just simply GET BY! So the moral of the story is this: Be grateful when the natural selection of life weeds people out of the garden of your life, because chances are, they were choking your growth and needed to go. Then celebrate all the new room you have to bloom!

I just wanted to say thank you Mandy. I went looking for encouragement and honesty and found it here this morning. I couldn’t sleep last night thinking about a close relationship with a cousin that has simply expired. I am growing so much and honestly feel that the relationship, if I continue in it, will stunt my growth. I am craving authenticity from myself and others and my cousin has a real problem with being honest. It’s something she’s always had but I have grown right out of accepting it. And my growth is what has created the rift. Shaken things up. I’m daring greatly. I recently, honestly called her on making an excuse instead of telling me the truth and she had a major problem with it. Wanted me to admit that I was wrong and I shouldn’t have said it. I did not and explained to her that I was sorry that it hurt her, but I spoke the truth about how I felt and would not apologize for speaking my truth. This is new for me and it seems that it’s completely unacceptable for some people. It’s been hard but I will continue because I know that I’m growing into the woman that I have prayed to become! Thank you for letting me vent! God bless you Mandy.
