The Single Woman’s Dash of Sass: Life Changes. Let It.

Quotes of the Day:

“What if you could pick one day of your life, and everything would stop changing, every day would be similar and comparable to that one day, and you’d always have the same people with you? If you could do that, would you do it? Would you pick that day and make that choice? We crave for things to stop changing, we wish that things would never change. But if we got what we wanted, there are so many things that are better, that we would never, ever know about. Sure, things would stay the same as that one wonderful day, but then there would be nothing else out there, ever. So can you remember the very first day when everything really did begin to change? Is there a thing that can remind you? Think about your first day of change, can you remember all the new heights you’ve soared since that day? All the new people? All the better things and times? Would you throw all of that time away? I wouldn’t. Instead, I want to finally accept all the things that I couldn’t change, which led to me being right here, right now. Maybe we all carry around inside us one day we wish we could keep forever, something we wished never did change. It’s time to let go of that day, and soar.” ~C. JoyBell C.

“When you are through changing, you are through.” ~Bruce Barton

“If nothing ever changed, there’d be no butterflies.” ~Unknown

The Single Woman Says:

It was about two weeks ago, sitting at a birthday dinner at a trendy restaurant in downtown Nashville, that I realized that I have changed.

It wasn’t an abrupt change…more a gradual one over the course of a couple of years…that I went from loving to dress up and go out and paint the town with my girlfriends on the weekends, to loving to stay in and read, go for a walk, or hit the movie theater with my girlfriends. I’ve never been a big partier by any means…I’m not a drinker and just haven’t sewn a lot of “wild oats” so to speak…but in the past, there was nothing I loved more than hitting a dance floor with my girls at the latest hot spot wearing the cutest outfit and the tallest stilettos I could find.

It was quite a surprise to come to the realization that I am simply not that girl anymore.

These days, I love my quiet evenings of going for a power walk with one of my best friends, Alli, or curling up on my couch with a great book, or hitting a coffee shop with one of my other best friends, Jamie. These days, the hottest hot spot I hang out in is my bubble bath. I’m still a social person and love dinners out and bookstore visits and treating my nieces to a “Girls Day,” but I also cherish my solitude and my simple single life. I just don’t feel the need to be a fixture on the Nashville social scene anymore, and you know what? I’m okay with that.

I think seasons of life serve us for as long as we need them, and then they transition into something new…something different…something that allows us to grow in the direction our life is calling us. Life really is all about change – welcoming change, accepting change, embracing change. The “YOU” of your late 20’s is not going to be the “YOU” of your early-30’s. Heck, the two of YOU might not even recognize each other! And single life offers the completely unique opportunity to change without asking for anyone’s permission to do so. You can grow and stretch and change and evolve and transform and adjust and modify as needed. You can change your mind one day and change it back the next! You can become the person you’re MEANT to be instead of staying the person you think you’re SUPPOSED to be. Change ushers in not just a new WAY, but a new DAY. We’re not meant to stay stagnant in the waters of life…but to move along with the current, allowing it to smooth out our rough edges and polish our inner diamond in the process. Moral of the story: Don’t panic when you wake up one morning and realize that everything looks different than it did the night before. Change doesn’t just alter what you like and what you DO…it helps you become a little more YOU!
