The Single Woman’s Dash of Sass: If You Wanna Persevere, Choose Faith Over Fear!

Quote of the Day:

“You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith.” ~Mary Manin Morrissey

“Fear tries to get us to give up, but faith takes us all the way through to victory.” ~Joyce Meyer

“When you make friends with fear, it can’t rule you.” ~Anne Lamott

The Single Woman Says:

Today is Friday the 13th, which, in American culture, at least, is traditionally thought of as a “day of fear,” all thanks to the gloriously terrifying Friday the 13th movies of our youth. I was thinking about this on the way into the office this morning. It has been pouring rain in Nashville for the past several days with no apparent end in sight, and visibility on the roadways has been slim to none. Even with the windshield wipers on, there’s always that moment between swipes as rain pelts onto the window and your vision is impaired…causing you to feel off kilter, blindsided, uncertain…even fearful. All you can do in that moment is take a deep breath, buckle up, and forge slowly and safely ahead, trusting that you are on the right path even if you can’t see the road signs that will tell you where to go next. If fear is rain that patters onto your window, blocking your ability to see all the great stuff ahead of you, then FAITH is the windshield wipers on the highway of life.

There are going to be moments when you’re not going to know for sure what’s coming next…and there won’t be signs pointing you to your destination…and the clouds of life will open up and pour buckets of rain onto the sunny day of your dreams…but if you forge ahead in faith, keeping your eye on the prize, eventually the windshield wipers will kick in and things will become clear. That’s the thing about fear. It can only hang around until faith enters the room, then it’s forced to flee. Whatever you’re facing today – a test, a heartbreak, a detour, a letdown, a doctor’s appointment, a delayed dream – when the rains of fear come, let your windshield wipers of faith answer. Stand strong, knowing that your destination is still there…it hasn’t changed…it can never be erased by a few drops of rain.
