The Single Woman’s Dash of Sass: Stop Being Polite & Start Getting REAL

Quote of the Day:

“There is nothing more beautiful than seeing a person being themselves. Imagine going through your day being unapologetically you.” ~Steve Maraboli

“Scholars, theologians, and even poets have yet to be able to truly describe and touch upon the beauty, romance, and magic of a relationship built on 100% authenticity.” ~Steve Maraboli

The Single Woman Says:

Let people be who they are.

You can’t change them. It’s not up to you to change them, any more than it’s up to them to change you.

You cannot be truly loved by anyone until you show up as YOU. They will love the smokescreen of you or the facsimile of you, but they won’t love the real you. The imperfect you. The you who has holes in her socks and a few more laugh lines than last year and prefers flip flops to stilettos. The quirky you who would rather sit for hours in a bookstore than dance for hours at a club. The idealistic you who is still bold and childlike enough believe in fairytales even though no Prince Charming has shown up yet to claim you.

You don’t always have to be savvy and cultured and look like you just stepped off the pages of a fashion magazine. You don’t have to borrow your best friend’s $400 pair of Louboutins to put your best foot forward. And you don’t have to pretend anymore. In any way, shape, or form.

There is nothing so freeing in life as dropping the act and just being YOU, for better or for worse. Saying what you mean and meaning what you say. Wearing stripes with polka dots if you choose to. Refusing to be boxed into anyone else’s opinion or expectation or judgment. Getting REAL in all areas of your life – friendships, career, health, and especially love. If you don’t like someone, tell them. If you’d rather just be friends…TELL them. If you DO like someone…tell them. Without fear. How might the world be different if we put away all the games and pretense and silliness and just got REAL with each other? How much time would be save? How much heartache? And how many more relationships would thrive within the context of pure honesty and authenticity instead of wilt underneath the pressure of “The Rules” and the unnecessary drama?

TODAY: Stop being polite and start getting REAL. Drop the walls, the excuses, the self-help books telling you who you are supposed to be and be exactly who you ARE. Nothing more, nothing less. I dare you.

The world will thank you.

Thank you for this. It was almost like you were talking directly to me. After the weekend I’ve had I needed to hear it.
