Day 9: Your Favorite Weird/Funny Single Behavior

Day 9Day 9: My favorite “weird/funny single behavior”

I’ve fallen behind on the past couple of days because I’ve been in the process of moving, so please forgive me! I honestly have a list a mile long of my favorite weird/funny single behaviors, so I’ll have to try and narrow it down here. I don’t know if you ever saw the episode of Sex & the City where the girls are talking about their “secret single behaviors” (Carrie would eat jam on Saltine crackers standing at her kitchen counter, Charlotte would stare at her pores in the mirror, etc.) – but it always makes me laugh when I rewatch it, because it’s such a great example of the uniqueness of the single journey. We simply experience life in a different way than our married counterparts and that’s just the way it is. I never have patience for people who say “But I don’t have any weird or funny or secret single behaviors”…because YES YOU DO. Don’t lie! No one lives their life as though they were under a microscope 24/7, and I doubt if anyone would want their average day replayed on a giant movie screen. Not because you’re doing anything wrong or shameful…but because there are simply some things that you do that are unique to you and you don’t have to invite the world into those moments with you. A few of my favorite “secret single behaviors” are:

1)      I love to listen to Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr. and Michael Buble while I clean. I sing into the broom handle and sometimes I even take a quick cleaning break and dance around the room with my cat. It just feels GOOD.

2)      If the Tiffany song “I Think We’re Alone Now” happens to come on my iPod, I stop whatever I’m doing and do the dance that my cousin and I made up to that song when we were ten. (I still remember every move).

3)      I pray in the bathtub. This might sound really weird…but I’ve had talks with friends before and discovered that other people do this, too. There’s something about being naked before God that  breaks down walls for me and allows me to come before Him with no pretense and just get REAL with my prayers.

4)      I play Wordmole on my phone (old school word search game) while watching The Golden Girls. This is my favorite way to end a day. I know. The excitement is almost too much to handle.

5)      I take drives out into the country and snap pics of things that inspire me.  There’s nothing more peaceful in the world to me than this.

I could go on and on and on…but this is probably my top five. I know that there might come a day when I won’t have the luxury of taking the time to do these things anymore, which makes me value my single behaviors all the more. If you haven’t found your list of single behaviors, I urge you to do so. It inspires you to really embrace your life and the freedom of it, and to focus on one of the most powerful gifts of single life – the time to do what you want, when you want. Get your eyes off what you DON’T have today (a relationship) and be grateful for what you DO: Space to design a life that fits you just right.

U made me really think on this one..but Music is a big therapy for me.. big time… depending on time of day or my feelings .. I turn the genre to soothe or up lift or deter my emotions…… i get tired and resort right bk to it.. love .. lover of music…

I look like to cook alone.. when i am in a good mood and do it early too in the day..so i am done…most times dinner ready at 11 am… early riser..

I like to communicate with people on the web.. like this one. tooo.. i dont’ know them they don’t know me.. but i respect them and i pretty much gt bk the same.. and so i have online friends just because we either the same likes for adversity going on in our lives… and i complement if i like what i read or if i don’t then still i appreciate the person leaving the thought.. give me something to think about..

I too love dancing on my lonesome…a therapy for me gets me out the rut and a bk to level playing field again…

I love to go to the mall or women’s clothing store and try on everything I want to put on. Don’t look at pricetag. And yes, prom dreases and evening gowns too.

Thank-you for this blog, wow, I’ve come to realise that I’ve stopped with my unique behaviors! I am going to start again!!! Thank-you for your honesty in all you blog posts, this is refreshing to see that I’m not the only one going through these things alone.

I like to clean the house with the music blaring… and singing.. it makes me feel awesome. Getting up in the morning and taking a walk alone and praying along the way… I know it may be nice with a man next to me, but I have learned and love to enjoy it alone.

    Hi Mandy,

I just discovered your site for the first time last night and I just want to let you know that you are such a blessing and inspiration to all the singles around the world. Being single (especially in the Christian world) is such a vulnerable topic and you are so incredible for being so open in sharing your journey through this season. I literally spent a few hours last night reading through your posts (and crying through half of them) because I felt like I could have written them all myself.

I am so glad that God is using you and your ministry to minister to the hearts of single women who are in need of encouragement during this time in life. May God continue using you for His kingdom. Blessings!

I sing at the top of my lungs
I wear my sexy nightgowns and bunny slippers.

I really feel like even though I have learned so much about myself this year this 30 day challenge is allowing me to learn so much more! I love it! And it comes at such a good time for me (and by good I mean this time of year could have been so awful but this is helping).

I’d say my strange/funny behavior as a single would be – not using electricity – the moment I come home from work is the moment that I instantly light up the candles! In the evenings I find it just so relaxing to sit in the candlelight

Have you ever listened to Il Volo? They fit right in there with your other favorite musicians, I think. 🙂

I didnt think that I had any secret single behaviors…then I climbed into bed: I sleep with a fluffy bunny (his name is Lancelot) and a differnt crystal in each hand 😉

I like to sing opera when no one is around, whether I know the words or not. I also like to eat whipped cream straight out of the aerosol can.

I am mostly described as weird hahaha So I guess everything. I like to bake when I am upset. I like to play angry music when I am angry. I sing even though I know I cant carry a tune hahaha I am a a big fan of Sherlock and a huge Otaku. I read fanfiction to relax and have fave authors there. I enjoy cooking for my family or guests. I tend to have days where I let my hair style let everyone know how I am feeling. IF its fixed, I’m at the top of my game. If it’s just slapped in a pony tail and there are flyaways…not so hot. I love listening to music and doing air guitar hahahaha I think I own 12 air guitars now 😛 lol

Hey. I love all your comments… I’m a singleton with friends that are forever in up and down relationships. What people don’t understand about me, although I’m “young” (I’m still in my 20s) I’m not looking for a boyfriend but a HUSBAND. And I guess that’s why I embrace being single… Any who my habits include singing and praying in the bathtub- like there’s no better place for me to worship at. I make anything that needs punching around before baking (like bread) when I’m angry. Oh and I have cute little make over sessions with myself

I text myself. When I need encouragement, I will get my cell phone and text a positive message and in a couple of seconds, Voila!

Dancing around my room, music up and singing is the best! Whether its when I am cleaning, getting ready to start the day or just because! Most of it is all country too 🙂
As odd as this sounds, I like to visit places that I have been with ex’s, brings back good memories and reminds me of what I truly want from a man.
Love just driving to drive, it is relaxing and no one can bug you alone in your car going 70 down the freeway!

Day#9 YOUR FAVORITE WEIRD/FUNNY SINGLE BEHAVIOR
This might sound REALLY weird for everyone. But I’m not gonna hide this.
Whenever I’m chillin with my friends or family and having a talk somewhere inside the house, I just randomly grab my tweezer from my pouch and start plucking my armpit hairs… lol
Not even caring there are also guys around!
