Dash of Sass: Maybe Today…

MindWhat if today we remember to be a little kinder? Speak a little softer? Show people a little more grace? Remember that the waitress who forgot to refill our tea glass might be preoccupied with her struggle to make ends meet and provide Christmas for her kids? Remember that the clerk who doesn’t crack a smile in the checkout line might not be rude, but perhaps just got a call from the doctor with some unsettling results? Remember that the woman who cuts us off in traffic and causes us to miss the light might not have seen us because she was blinded by her tears & struggling to breathe beneath the weight of her broken heart?

WHAT IF we let love lead instead of frustration or impatience or cynicism or the need to be right? What if we stopped putting people in their place and started putting them in our prayers? How might the world change if everyone started spreading love across their little corner of it? Maybe today could be the day you stop complaining about having to go back to work and get grateful that you have a job, unlike so many others. Or maybe today is the day you buy someone’s coffee in line behind you and surprise them. Or buy a sandwich for the homeless man on the corner. Or the day you leave a bigger tip or smile a bigger smile or show bigger mercy to someone who may not deserve it but surely could use it. Maybe today your little act of kindness could save someone’s life who couldn’t see a reason to hang on before you shined a little light their way.

Two powerful words:
“Maybe today….”

Thank you for those words because today turned out to be the day when calling a good friend was all the while worth it.
He appreciates my call because he starts with his exams tomorrow. ♥

I firmly agree with your post and love these two questions especially, ” What if we stopped putting people in their place and started putting them in our prayers? How might the world change if everyone started spreading love across their little corner of it? ” I try to tell people in every interaction that they matter and I appreciate them, but sometimes that can go unrewarded and I question why I try so hard. Those two questions were what I needed to get back in the right state of mind–it’s about them, not about me.

You should never take anyone at face value! People have struggles and can’t always hide them! If you realize that you can pick it out and then make a effort to brighten that persons day, ny buying lunch, a simple hi how are you, or can I help you with an ear and shoulder to lean on my friend! A little love and caring goes a long way and costs nothing!

And “why not”? A candle that shares its flame with another candle loses nothing of itself. Share your light, share your joy.

    Hello Mandy,
I recently received your book Single Woman from my 8 year old son for Christmas and feel compelled to share my story with you. I haven’t had the greatest luck in the love department and well being a single mom my son is my world. He was perusing through the Christian section at Barnes and Noble and somehow stumbled across your book and told his grandma that was the book he needed to get me. (This kid is way too wise for his age.) So Christmas Eve I’m in my bed, sad about a recent breakup, and I guess he could feel my heart hurting. So he got the book and brought it to me and said Merry Christmas mommy. So I saw the title, laughed and said thank you. Had no idea that your book was going to make such an impact on my life. I picked it up a week ago and finished it in two days. I was so moved. I started telling all my friends about it. After I closed the book I went and thanked him for picking the best book I’ve ever read out for me and looked up and said thank you to God too. You are truly an amazing person and an inspiration. I wish I would have gotten this book years ago. But God hears our prayers and knows when we are hurting and at that exact moment in the book store he spoke to my son and allowed me to be blessed by your words. I wanted to thank you. For writing a book that speaks to all us single girls that are lost and questioning everything about ourselves. To give us hope, laughter and the courage to believe in ourselves and love ourselves more than anyone else can. I just started your second book and I’m loving it. Thank you again. May God continue to bless your life and the lives of every woman that reads your books.
