Dash of Sass: What’s For You is For You

RelaxI didn’t write this quote, but this could well be my mantra for 2015. RELAX, I just keep hearing God whisper into my spirit. Stop striving. Stop seeking after things that others have. Stop DOING so much and just learn to BE. Because here’s the thing. You can easily scroll through Twitter or Facebook or any other social media stream at any given time on any given day and feel completely lacking and inadequate when you start comparing your life to those of the people you follow. But the problem is, you’re comparing the very WORST moment of your day with the very BEST of theirs. And you’re also comparing your path to theirs, and every time you do that, you will always come up lacking, because what is for them is not for you. On the flip side of that coin is: What is for YOU is not for THEM. You don’t have to panic because you don’t have what they have…you simply have to trust in the beauty of what YOU have. And it is enough. You possess every talent, every quality, everyTHING you could possibly ever need to walk your path. So relax. Stop comparing and stop competing. What’s for them will never be yours and what’s for you will never be theirs and the beautiful thing about God and about life is that everybody ends up exactly where they should be, when they should be, and who they should be. Always.

I was raised by an amazing single mother and she would always tell me that! What’s for you is for you and nobody can take it away from you!! Thank you for writing this. My mom has been in heaven for over 10 years and tonight I needed to be reminded of this and HE used you to remind me. Thank you.

What’s for you is for you and nobody can take it away from u. My father said it to me in Chinese in my teen years. I don’t quite grasp the quote but seeing it here again wow! And the article is such a timely reminder, what with seeing all the couples on the train. Sometimes they just seem.happier. But I would never want to be within the constraints of a relationship that feels claustrophobic or a relationship that’s not the right one for me. Thanks Mandy ~~~ You r my inspiration x

The beautiful thing about God and about life is that everybody ends up exactly where they should be, when they should be, and who they should be. Its only in God’s Grace.

This is exactly what I needed to hear (read). I’m so bad about comparing my life to anyone else’s when I’m online. It’s really bad! Thank you for this post!

This is exactly why shows like The Bachelor aren’t helpful. No need to waste energy winning over someone. If it is meant to be, its not like a tournament.

I just finished reading the mystery book entitled “The Girl On The Train”. The story of the book supports your statement about comparing one’s life to someone else’s life. We see photos or glimpses of someone else’s life and we think that their life is wonderful and ours is not. We start to get sad about our life in comparing it to snapshots and the imaginary lives of others. You make an excellent point – we can’t really compare. Everyone has baggage and struggles. EVERYONE. Some are more hidden than others. We are not alone. Thank you for your post today.

This was right on time! I experienced an “inadequate” moment just last night and in hindsight, I realize how I was able to stay so calm and RELAXED. No need to stress when your BLESSED!

What wisdom Mandy (and even though you admitted you did not create the quote, the way you elaborated on it was wonderful!). Man, you nabbed it — even to the point of looking at Facebook! How often I have come away after viewing pictures of families, a son’s graduation, a daughter’s wedding with that darn “twinge” (and held onto and “nurtured” becomes oh so much more than a twinge!) of “Where’s mine, Lord???!!!” But that is just our own desires (which are normal) being manipulated by the enemy and our still-existing flesh and being turned into “disordered desires” (not my terminology: got it from an issue of “Today in the Word” on the place of desire in our faith walk). I think that is exactly what you are warning us against, along with encouraging us not to believe the lie that God is depriving us, which so robs of joy. And for anyone who is interested in this concept of “disordered desires,” there is a whole month’s worth of reading in the September 2014 issue of “Today in the Word.” Oh man was this timely as I raged over my unmet desires!!! Anyway, thank you Mandy. This is so beautifully written and so, so true. Blessings, Terri

Darn, I forgot to add the central thought about that quote: consider what Jesus said to Mary as she sat before Him during His stay at hers and Martha’s home: “But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, WHICH WILL NOT BE TAKEN AWAY FROM HER” (Luke 10:42). That is the one thing that granted, we ALL as Believers have: our personal relationship with Jesus Christ…and if we submit to it (not always easy, especially if we are wanting what someone else has — or MY terrible/favorite accusation: “But God, THEY have Jesus AND…”), nurture it, and DWELL in it (and not in what we perceive is someone else’s “wonderful life”), suddenly (supernaturally) that craving for “what others have and I don’t” tends to become more vaporous (which is what the Bible says our earthly life is anyway, right? A vapor?). AND it – that relationship with Him – will NEVER BE TAKEN AWAY FROM US…. Oh the cravings may raise their ugly heads; but that’s when we have to, like you alluded to Mandy, put them in the right perspective and go back once again to Jesus’ feet and dwell there instead. Thanks again. Terri ( :

Thanks for posting this! I, most of the time compare myself to others, to someone whos same age as mine, asking why them has a stable kob, good relationship, travel abroad, travel somewhere else which exactly the things I dont have. But thanks for sharing! It is right, whats for me is always for me.

Mandy, I am so glad I found your blog, there always seems to be words I need at just the right time! I’ll share something I posted on Facebook earlier this month (my own quote): ” If you were to walk in my shoes you would probably think the things that I think are sad, tragic, infuriating, or otherwise negative aren’t really that bad. Likewise the things I find endearing, funny, and positive you may not see what the big deal is about. But you know what? They are my shoes, not yours. They fit me perfectly and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. I’m the me that God created and that’s all I ever want to be! Love yall!”

Exactly what I needed to hear today.
Yesterday I turned 28. And I’ll be flat out honest, I’m not where I thought I would be in life. I have so many goals, dreams, aspirations just like everyone else. And I’m struggling to be content and happy with where God has me right now.

Dearest Mandy, how about renaming and claiming yourself as “The Blessed Woman”? Instead of single woman. There is so much power in our words. Just a thought since single is not where you plan to stay, God willing. I love your work and am thankful for you. You are truly BLESSED! *************

wow… This really hit home with me. I needed to read this today. It’s so easy for me to feel sad, inadequate, and lonely as I scroll through social media and see all the news and pics of engagements, weddings and babies. Even as I sit here single and still living at home. God knows what I need and when I need it. my life may not look like theirs right now, and that’s okay.
