Dash of Sass: Be Who You Really Are

Who We AreToday I hereby give you permission to feel exactly how you are feeling without apologizing or stifling or excusing or resisting. I give you permission to drop the politeness and the masks and the sugar-coating and just be REAL. To stop wasting time justifying and rationalizing and analyzing and just say what you mean and mean what you say. To accept yourself in all your brave, broken beauty and to stop trying to pick up all the pieces and glue them back together with good intentions but to just let your imperfect self shine. I give you permission to take a deep breathe and let go of the person you think you SHOULD be and instead celebrate the person that you ARE. To drop expectations of yourself and of others and to just accept each moment as it is, as it comes. I give you permission to Just. Be. YOU. And I give myself permission to just be me. Let’s stop trying to wipe away all the cracks and scuff marks and smudges and flaws and instead look at them as signs of a life well-lived and as little medals of honor that life and people and heartache and disappointment at one point tried to break us but WE ARE STILL HERE. Let’s just be who we really are…k?

I love this. I love reminding myself I’m allowed to be angry, I’m allowed to carry a grudge. Most importantly, I’m allowed to love every moment of my full, satisfying, and very single life and I’m allowed to enjoy being a one instead of one half of a two.
