Dash of Sass: The Key to Figuring Out Who You Really Are

Quotes of the Day:

God and Destiny are not against us, rather they are for us. They are the ones who never forget the things we have long forgotten, the ones who hear the desires of our heart that our own heads can’t hear, and they are the ones who never forget who we really are, long after our minds have forgotten the images of who we are. ~C. Joybell C.

The Single Woman Says:

I’ve always kind of felt the invisible hand of God on my life.

I tend to experience these unbelievable, almost impossible to imagine full circle moments on a regular basis that serve as little reminders to who I am and what I’m supposed to be doing with my life. Just the other day, my former boss of five years reminded me of a very special full circle moment that I had forgotten about. When he interviewed me back in late 2007 and asked me where I wanted to be in five years, I told him I wanted to be a published author. Exactly five years later, I completed my first manuscript for Thomas Nelson Publishers. A couple of weeks ago, I held a book launch event here in Nashville to celebrate the release of my first book (out on August 6th), and when I looked at the date (July 13th, 2013), I realized it was exactly one year to the day that I had turned in my notice at the very same job that I had been at since 2007. Why did I turn in my notice? To be a full-time writer. Pretty amazing. A month or so after I started The Single Woman, I was getting in my car one day after work (at that same job) and happened to glance at the last three letters of my license plate that I had never noticed before. What were the three letters? “TSW.” As in – The Single Woman. It moved me to tears. How did my license plate know who I was before I even did?!?

God and fate (and maybe even your license plate!) already know who you were born to be. And they’re waiting on you to figure it out, too. And they’re sending you clues, every day. Here are a few of those clues to look for:

  • What have you always loved to do, ever since you were a kid? I loved books and loved to read. I also loved to help people. Today I am an inspirational author…a direct correlation to everything I’ve been since I was five years old.
  • What are you passionate about? What brings you to life? Gets your blood pumping?
  • What do other people look up to you for? Advice? Help with their finances? Singing lessons? Help writing a paper or organizing their closet? Often others recognize our light long before we even do.

I guess my point to all of this is not to point out how special or unique my journey is…but to inspire you to take a look at your OWN life for clues about where you belong and who you’re meant to be. Often the key to figuring out who you are is as simple as figuring out what you LOVE. Your heart already knows. You might not see results of it yet in your LIFE…but if you keep following your heart’s desire and listening to what your life is telling, you’ll get there. It might take a little while. It might not happen right away. You might have some business to finish and some obstacles to overcome and some growing to do…but you’ll get there eventually. How do I know this? Because I did.

I really loved this article. It really opened my eyes to a whole new oppurtunities right now for me. I’m so glad that I’ve read this article. It’s very uplifting to me. And a month ago me and the love of my life seperated and we still are very close and still communicating, and also still in love and only wanting to be with eachother. he had to handle some business but I’m starting to see now how God had really revealed some things to me. Maybe God is preparing me and him to be strong and better for our family. We’re strong together now but wait till he bring us back together it will be magical. God is showing that I have to love myself more and be able to depend on him and relized that life will take a turmoil on you but just breathe and everything will be ok.

Agree with everything you said Mandy. I’m currently on my journey to figuring out what’s next for me. I’m off to an ashram in Bali next month and looking forward to what comes about.
In the meantime I’m eagerly awaiting for your book to arrive at my doorstep (in Australia) and will be reading it on the plane.

I just read you post (a bit late i know)… but i guess i read it on time for the struggle that i’m currently going through. “The struggle”? Well, figuring out who i really am… I’m 23 years old and i’ve spent almost all that time shadowing my older sister and everything she ever did, not realising that in doing that i was blocking out who i really am. So last year i moved away from my older sister and this whole year i’ve been faced with the challenge of “figuring out who i REALLY am” it’s almost a year afterwards, i’ve read and researched and listened and tried and of coarse prayed… and i’m not sure if i’ve made any progress but it sure doesn’t feel like it. What have i loved since i was a kid?? what am i passionate about?? what do people look up to me for?? I honestly do not know… maybe i’m not trying hard enough… (HELP)
