The Single Woman’s 30-Day Blogging Challenge!

The Single WomanI was feeling the need to give my own creativity a little jumpstart, so I thought maybe you guys might want to join me! I’m going to attempt to complete as many days as I can. There are no rules except to write often and be REAL! No pretense here. Let’s do this!

The Single Woman’s 30-Day Blogging Challenge

1)      Your response to everyone’s favorite question: “And why are YOU still single?”

2)      Describe a moment or a day when being single really sucked.

3)      Describe a moment or a day when being single was really awesome.

4)      Your biggest fear as a single person.

5)      The biggest misconception you think people have about single life

6)      Sound off on the quote “Every woman has the exact love life she wants”

7)      Where you are in your life vs. where you thought you would be at this point

8)      Five things that are most important to you in a future mate

9)      Your favorite “weird/funny single behavior” – Anything you do that is uniquely YOU and that living alone allows you to do (For example, I sometimes dance around the house with my cat to Frank Sinatra)

10)   Google the meaning of your name and talk about how it fits or doesn’t fit you

11)   Your worst/funniest/most embarrassing date

12)   Your proudest accomplishment

13)   Describe how you met the last person you texted and talk about your friendship/relationship

14)   Describe the last moment you felt really, truly blissful

15)   Narrate a conversation between you and someone in your life who you never had closure with (a friend, an ex, a family member, etc.) What would you say? What would they say? What outcome would you hope for?

16)   If you planted a time capsule right now of your life to be opened in 20 years, what would be in it?

17)   What are your spiritual beliefs and how do they impact your relationships/relationship status?

18)   If you could have a conversation with yourself in high school, what would you say?

19)   What is something about you that people would be surprised to learn?

20)   Describe your most difficult breakup and what you learned from it

21)   How would you pitch a reality show about yourself? To what network?

22)   What fictional character in a movie, tv show, or book do you identify with and why?

23)   Talk about a moment when you got annoyed with a married friend, a person in a relationship, or a person with kids (Be honest! No judgment!)

24)   If you could relive ONE day of your life, what would it be? And would you change anything?

25)   Describe a moment when you “paid it forward.” What happened and how did it feel?

26)   Name a song that makes you cry every time you hear it and why

27)   Talk about something that you really, really, really love about yourself.

28)   Describe a moment when you made a big, bold move. In any area of life: Career, Love, etc.

29)   Who is your closest or most special friend that you’ve never met and what do they mean to you? How did you cross paths? Talk about how you “met” them: Facebook, Twitter, an online support group, etc.

30)   Write a letter to your future mate saying whatever you want to say

Invite anyone who you think might be interested to participate. Post links to your blog posts in the comments below so we can all check them out! Or use the hashtag #TheSW30 on Twitter!

    I am SO in!!

  6. October 4, 2013

Day 1: 1) Your response to everyone’s favorite question: “And why are YOU still single?”
First off let me clarify, I will be 34 on the 27th of this month and I’ve never been married and have no kids and I am perfectly happy with that! Few ask me that anymore, but if/when they do, my response is sometimes “why not?” (that always gets a good, confused look out of someone haha). I also respond with “well my 7 year relationship in my 20′s did a 360 turn back in 2007 and now we are just great friends and nothing more, probably ever… since then, I’ve only had one serious relationship that lasted a year with someone who was incredibly insecure and jealous, and what I went through I will never go through again”, other than that I have dated, a lot, but men in my small town area do not like the independant, free woman, they want the needy, take care of me (generally the divorced, single moms) types. It is what it is, and I couldn’t be prouder to be me! :)

    • Julia
      October 4, 2013

I love that response!!! I am going to use that next time I am asked that too.

    • October 4, 2013

I also believe that God has not brought him to me yet, patiently waiting and still living life, one bad date at a time because I WILL NOT SETTLE for any man that will have me, I have little to no timeline when it comes to marriage, I feel the longer I wait, the more right it will be and longer it will last. :)

    • Frances
      October 15, 2013

Oh yes.. I love to celebrate you and the stand you take for yourself !! I’m single too and have been for quite sometime over ten years. It is what it is and celebrate each new day in the moment.

    • Crystal
      October 21, 2013

I have to agree with the small town men. But I am a single mother with 2 kids and that has a lot to do with my strong personality and being very independent. I am not the needy clingy type and the men in my town can’t understand that. I have a full time job, take care of 2 kids, 2 dogs, and take care of my house. I have also got out of a 1 year relationship with a man that was incredibly insecure and jealous. After I ended it with him I knew that I couldn’t be with a man like that because it will never work. He wanted me to constantly reassure him of our relationship, constantly calling and texting me, and I couldn’t take it anymore. It was a big turn off. I know that Mr. Right is out there and I will not settle for less.

    • October 5, 2013

Susan you can create a blog for free using Weebly.com. It’s super user-friendly, even if you’re not tech savvy!

  9. October 4, 2013

I just started this blog last night (literally don’t have ONE post yet) so this is PERFECT timing for me to answer these questions and start. When are we starting the blogging? Everyone go follow, and I’ll start blogging when the challenge starts :) excited to hear everyone’s story.

    October 4, 2013

I don’t have a blog but through a devotional for single woman I started last month I have really gotten into journaling and some of these questions if not all of them will be great for me to journal about to just reflect on why I am where I am and also about my reactions to some things.

  11. […] Mandy threw down a blogging challenge and I think it is a good way to get back into blogging. I wasn’t sure which one to put it on but this is the blog I like more right now (because I like the TARDIS and while I don’t think the Empire is all that cool, the name rocks). So – here we go! […]

    • Gina
      October 4, 2013

I loved reading your blog!! Right on!! I am single because I CHOOSE to be and because I’m done settling. Also I’m taking time for ME and learning to love ME again after the heartbreak and hell I’ve been thru. I’ve always been in some sort of relationship since I was 17 and I’m 32. Don’t get me wrong being single is NOT all fun and games but neither is being in a relationship. They both have pros and cons. So for now this is my journey and I’m ok walking it alone. So why not be single and enjoy life on MY terms?!?!

  12. October 4, 2013

This is just the kick in the pants that I needed to start blogging regularly again. Thanks Mandy!

Day#1. “…and why are you still single?”
I found this question very quite intriguing that’s why I decided to join this 30days challenge blog.
    Well, why??
I’ve already dated couples of guys and I think none of them gave me the REAL SPARK yet.
I mean, I already had two proposals since I was a teen but I still don’t find it REAL because I never had any engagement ring yet.
And as a Christian, I agree with the fact of “stop finding” but “be patient to wait” advice.
I’m still 23 and young, so from now I’m in the stage of not rushing things and slow down on relationships til I meet THE ONE. :)

  27. October 4, 2013

I am ready for this. I have a blog about dating & relationships!

I am single because I love the freedom of being myself & no one has found me that will let me be me. Who will love and accept me flaws and all. I’m also not willing to settle for someone who doesn’t want to build something with me and because I often see how males words do not match their actions.

I remember first time I took mini vacation to Puerto Rico by myself. I needed to get away , needed few days to recoup. I have traveled alone . I was enjoying myself until I went to a restaurant to grab a dinner . A guy who was sitting me asked how many people and I said “just me”. I never forget the look he gave me. Kind of pity , like he couldn’t believe a girl would go to restaurant by herself . That moment I felt being single sucks .

“And why are YOU still single?”–At my age (40′s) I no longer get asked this question. But when I did I’d say “God must be saving a hell of a man for me!” So my advice to all the younger women who are still siingle is…stop questioning it and live your life to the fullest. I have a beautiful daughter who is my pride and joy and we live everyday in gratitude, abundance, and adventure. If you are meant to be married it will happen; if not and you’ve lived a great life then be grateful! All the best in life and love!

Why am I still single? Well, I actually had a conversation on this very same topic at Starbucks last night. Come to think of it, I can relate to Ms. Mandy Hale. I’m partly single because I want to take time to live for me. I’m a traveler, mostly domestic, some international for a couple of years. I want to discover God through places, food, and people, and I want to discover myself before marriage. I want to work on my “so-called” issues before meeting someone. I use to think my Prince Charming is out there, but when I think about it, God is my Prince Charming. So, now, I’m waiting my patiently for my Duke:)

  50. October 5, 2013

Just found this and SO doing this! I started a blog about my journey to turning 30 (and still being single) and have blanked on where to start with writing. This gives me a perfect place to start. Don’t know if I’ll get to write every single day but this will certainly give me topics! Thanks!

Day#2 A MOMENT OR A DAY WHEN BEING SINGLE SUCK

  53. October 5, 2013

I think I’ll do this. It was my breaksary a week ago. My friends were excited and asked us to celebrate it. I didn’t. Last night,I ended up in a pathetic ball of self-pity thinking there’s only my ex who could ever possibly love me and now,he’s gone. I tried posting something on my blog to vent off some steam but I couldn’t. I felt like I wss locking myself in and thus,I can’t let go because there’s no door to move out to. As soon as I woke up today,I went to treat myself. And here I am,at a local restaurant, eating pancakes, pies and drinking hot chocolate (bless you, calories) and reading your blog. :) I got really interested with the list!!! Who knows,I might get to figure out something special about myself after this challenge. Thanks Mandy. You’re such a great inspiration. I love you for that!!!

Day#3 A MOMENT OR DAY BEING SINGLE WAS AWESOME
Most of my girl friends are taken, so, me as a pretty mature woman they always come up to me whine and ask for my advice.
And it made me thought I kinda like as a single for now because I don’t have any emotional stress about boyfriends right now.
I mean, I can do anything I want and go anywhere I want without asking a partner if he’ll let me or not.
So as for now, I am loving my freedom and enjoying my life as a single woman. :)

Day#4 MY BIGGEST FEAR BEING SINGLE
I am pretty sure I won’t be the only one who’s gonna say this! lol
Getting old single, never married and having no kids at all til I reach 40s is my biggest fear.
As a teacher, it’s one of our dreams having our own child.
So, here I am giving myself a countdown to enjoy my single life til I settle down with a relationship.

    October 7, 2013

    Day 1:
    1) Your response to everyone’s favorite question: “And why are YOU still single?”
I am still single because I am 23 years old I feel like I still have a lot to accomplish in my life and most importantly I feel like I need to work on myself before I can attempt to make it work with someone else. I was in a long term relationship before he screwed me over so I now have trust issues/insecurity problems that I feel like only I & God can repair. I recently tried another so called ‘relationship’ which was doomed from the start so now I feel as if I really need to just focus on myself & career in order to be happy in life. So for now I’m living the dream being single and answering to no one! & I love it!

  80. October 8, 2013

I am a bit behind but will attempt to catch up.
Question #1 – “AND WHY ARE YOU STILL SINGLE?”
I refuse to settle for someone that is going to let me down. That is not going to meet my expectations, not going to respect me, not understand me…..NOT BE ON THE SAME PAGE (even though he was the one I loved). “ain’t nobody got time for that” http://rohzees-corner.tumblr.com/
    Xoxo

  81. October 8, 2013

DAY 2 – “DESCRIBE A MOMENT OR DAY WHEN BEING SINGLE REALLY SUCKED.”
I think it sucks to single when its a rainy day or a cold day. I feel like I need someone to snuggle with on those days. Someone to snack with and drink hot cocoa with. Another instance is when you need that “manly” support only a man can give, when he says “do even worry about it….its not that big of a deal…this is what you do….” (then I feel much better cos he has my BACK. http://rohzees-corner.tumblr.com/

  82. October 8, 2013

DAY 3 – “Describe a moment or a day when being single was really awesome.”
………..when I can get up and go to do what I want to do without anyone objecting to it, making excuses, complaining or being negative. It is what I say it is and THAT’S what I’m going to do…LET’S GO! http://rohzees-corner.tumblr.com/

  83. October 8, 2013

DAY 4 – “YOUR BIGGEST FEAR AS A SINGLE PERSON?”
Not having someone to have my BACK, unconditionally…….or when a dog comes after me…..or when I run out of gas etc

DAY 5 – “THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION YOU THINK PEOPLE HAVE ABOUT SINGLE LIFE?”
….that I am LONELY + MISERABLE + DIFFICULT = too INDEPENDENT; hence, very difficult to please and get along with (not true)…..”that’s why she’s single” :/

  86. Crizzy
    October 8, 2013

Day#5 THE BIIGEST MISCONCEPTION I THINK FROM OTHER PEOPLE
…is when they think that all guys these days are all the same (I pretty know they’re all not and we’re all not too) and then they lose hope of trying for a new challenge again.
    Which is really sad…

  87. Kelly
    October 8, 2013

I had to share my blog on Day 5 because it’s a topic I get quite HOT about….lol

The biggest misconception you think people have about single life…….

I was in the grocery store about a month or so ago and the checkout lady saw that Jennifer Aniston was on the cover of a magazine I bought and she made the comment of “I wonder what’s wrong with her that she has been single for so long.” Now this made me really hot! I for one like Jennifer Aniston. However, whether you like her or not…WHY do people automatically jump to the conclusion that something is WRONG with someone because they are single?! Did people ever try to think outside their normal box and think that maybe just MAYBE a single person had just not yet found the right person? Society is SO afraid of single, independent people it’s ridiculous. I have a co worker who quite often has to bring up the fact that I am single therefore I must be picky……um no asshole, I am not picky however I am not willing to settle for someone I am not even really into for the sake of getting married so if I have to wait til I am 40 or 50 to find him….so be it and if that means I am picky then so be it…..I would rather be single than sorry…….this topic really gets my blood boiling….lol
I am note sure if I am sharing the rest of my blogs….I am using Facebook Notes and tagging The Single Woman in them but not sure it’s working and I title them #TheSW30……does anyone know how I can make sure they get shared on here? Thanks! And CHEERS to being single and fabulous…….at least until the right man comes along! :) Thank you Mandy for giving us single gals a place to discuss topics, etc.

  94. […] Y’all seriously.  Today was a doozy.  Have you ever had those days when you feel like you’re on a rollercoaster ride of emotions? That’s how I’ve been feeling all day.  I started off sleepy (usual) but happy because I was greeted from a few late(r) night text messages from my Minneapolis girlfriends who had clearly had a little too much to drink on a school night.  I made it out of the house in time to stop at Dunkin (about a 50/50 occurrence) before hopping in the carpool car, which thankfully didn’t hit any out of the ordinary traffic.  So far, pretty good.  However, the minute we stepped out of the car into the chilled chocolate air, my day went to hell in a hand basket.  I won’t bore you with the details but I’ll tell you that by the time we walked out of the door (I was the carpool driver home), I was absolutely drained.  Laughing with coworkers, writing and re-writing a scathing email, hounding a cross-functional team member for shit they owed me two weeks ago, stepping outside for a breather, joking with co-workers about how crappy the day is, REPEAT.  Rollercoaster all day long.  Thankfully, I have an amazing roomie who had a great big bowl of turkey chili waiting for me at home.  It felt good to close the door on the day.  And now that I am settled home in bed, I need to answer question #6 of the Single Woman’s 30 Day Blogging Challenge. So instead of gazing into each others eyes n whispering sweet nothinsgss…we had dinner n basically he was gazing longingly at the t.v screen. And that was enough for me to know that i would never be first in this man’s life n im proud to say im still single but so happy i didnt settle.

Day#7 WHERE YOU ARE IN YOUR LIFE VS. WHERE YOU THOUGHT YOU WOULD BE AT THIS POINT
I call myself a HOUSE DAUGHTER because of the fact that I am still living with my parents and still applying for a job now. I had a few job interviews but I guess fate wants me to focus on taking my baby steps one by one from the tragedies I had from my past. Despite of all those, I enjoy spending my time through ready my daily devotions, my temporary jobs, focusing on my ministry and loving the moments with my biological family and my families thru Christ.
If ever those mistakes I done never happened, I don’t think I will be sitting here in this computer chair, reminiscing and realizing that since God brought me back to His track I would be clueless about other people’s perspective acts physically, mentally and spiritually. Indeed, everything happens for a reason.

I will start with Day 1. I am 41 years old, female, never married and no children. People tend to ask me “How come you are not married?” or “What’s the matter? Don’t you like boys?” I usually tell them “my story” to which they reply “Don’t worry! Enjoy your single life. It’s better that way.” Then they tell me about THEIR married problems! Do you know how many times I have been told NOT to get married!? Yet, I have been asked to be set up with co-workers and friends from well meaning friends and family. I am glad I never went through with it. I may not have planned my life to turn out this way, but I am glad that it did!

  174. Naomi - Day 2: Being Single Sucked when...
    November 7, 2013

From what I remember, being single sucked when:

    1. You go to dinner with a group of co-workers and friends and a guy you dated is there with a date of his own.

    2. New Years Eve is spent at a concert, standing room only, by yourself because your friend gets into an argument with her cheating boyfriend and she needs to stay home to curse him out on the phone.

    3. Men who want to take you out on Valentine’s Day aren’t men you are attracted to so you decline the invitation.

    4. You keep meeting men online who misrepresent themselves in the pictures they post on the internet. Such a waste of time.

    5. A one night stand couldn’t even be a 30 minute stand because he had erectile disfunction.

6.The guy you thought you had a connection with had a very small penis. Size DOES matter!

    7. Men lie about being a father or lie about the number of children they actually have.

Am I too late for this? I am not 100% single, I have a boyfriend, but at 37 that makes me technically single right?

Still single because… well there are increasingly fewer men in western culture. Integrity, honor, being a man of your word, loyalty, courage….they are such rare, rare traits nowadays. So there are just alot more boys who never really grow up and thus just remain guys. So there are fewer and fewer real men. And there is no point in leading on a guy, who will ultimately be crushed/hurt when he finally realizes that his woman can’t truly respect him.

Hi I am a married man. How should I react when I got “I am still single” answer from a random woman above 30 ?

    1. Awkward silence.
    2. Oh ok. Awkward silence.
    3. Ooh (pity face)
    4. Hey it’s ok (smiling)
    5. You know I got married late …..

  186. Naomi - Day 5: Misconception about Single Life
    November 27, 2013

    December 1, 2013

When I was single, the 5 things that were most important to me in a future mate were:

    1. Handsome/attractive – I need a little bit of eye candy. You don’t have to be ‘super fine’, but I need to be handsome with some kind of facial hair.

    2. Outgoing – I don’t like boring men. I had one and obviously we are no longer together. I need someone who is open minded and willing to try new things. Life doesn’t have to be an adventure everyday, but at least be willing to be open minded and try something new.

    3. Book smart and street smart – I need a man who is well rounded

    4. No jealous men – Been there, done that. Very unattractive. Looking back at my experience, he was either jealous or had serious trust issues. I immediately ended that relationship when he accused me, several times, about not being at work and not seeing my car parked in the employee parking lot. I worked full-time and my car was always right in one of the front 3 parking spaces.

    5. No kids – I tried to date men with children, but there always seemed to be an issue. Either they still had feelings for their childrens’ mother or they lied and painted themselves as ‘Father of the Year’ (more like father of THAT year) by having custody of their kids. Most of my experiences with men with children always ended up with men lying about the number of children they actually had. Instead of one child, it was more like 3 or 4 with one on the way……
